Sheds, checkpoint, palm trees, and other sorts of things

checkpoint

This is the checkpoint, which also serves as the entrance point/gate when entering the vicinity of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus. All vehicles are required to slow down while the UP Police, in their uniform and orange vest, checks on you. What I love about this particular spot are those pointed, angular sheds located at both sides of the road. The only uniquely structured shed I've seen so far in the country.

torch

Meanwhile, in the UP Los Baños (UPLB) campus, all vehicles are required to have a sticker affixed on the right side of their front window glass. Jeepneys for example are required to have the blue sticker. If a vehicle has no sticker, the UP Police will question the motorists and ask what's their business inside the campus. Private vehicles are given temporary sticker to enter. Entering the campus, you'll be greeted with a horde of palm trees all standing tall and lined up at the side of the road. It's a facinating site. I am an adoring fan of these palm trees. This is uniquely UPLB since they don't have them in UP Diliman campus. Also featured in the photo is the gigantic torch, which I always make fun of, for some strange reason (above photo). I just feel that it ruins the mood. But then again, you'll have carabao with wings at the other side of the campus. :-)

-------

I went scuba diving yesterday in Subic. The scorching heat of the sun didn't stop me. The beautiful corals, the school of fish, holding Nemo in my hand, seeing an actual blue tang, and feeling the vast deep blue water of the Marina Bay are enough compensation for my burnt skin and my aching shoulders. The tip of my nose is burnt too (i look really stupid). I'll have the series ready next week.

Impressive entrance! Looks like the entrance of some exotic kingdom.

Good, in the end we will see a self-portrait, isn't it?

I really like the geometry of this architecture, although it kind of looks like something from Star Wars has crash-landed on your campus. Walking down that avenue of palm trees must be pretty nice.

Very star wars indeed that shed!
Damn, I was really looking forward to a self portrait of Rayts with a burnt nose.
About the boad photo on my blog: I took it at 100iso, and I blocked my aperture at 10, giving me a speed of 1/100 of a second. Focal length 85mm with a crop factor of 1,6 on my Canon 10D. The reflection of the setting sun on the water gives it a special effect indeed.

I like the depth of your second photo here with the palm trees.

Wow, your universities really seem high security to me!
